8 July 2020, Cambridge MA – Electronic lab notebook and informatics solutions provider BioData is proud to announce it has achieved the ISO 27001:2013 Information Security Standard, the world’s most rigorous and well-regarded standard for information security management.

This badge of excellence means BioData has achieved one of the highest possible standards of security to protect the data of its clients in laboratories across the world.

Tomer Smolenski, Chief Information Security Officer at BioData, commented: “Our clients have long recognised the stringent standards we set ourselves in delivering technological excellence, information security and data compliance through our market-leading Labguru electronic lab notebook (ELN). We are delighted this has been independently validated by our achievement of ISO 27001 in recognition of our best practice.

“BioData’s clients have come to depend on the data management capabilities of Labguru to manage their planning, documentation and retrieval of experiments, support inventory management, ensure compliance with international standards, provide auditable reports, and enable cross-lab collaboration anywhere in the world.

“Now, our ISO accreditation means our best ELN technology is in compliance with high-security standards and can be deployed without the need for additional, often extensive risk assessment.”

Information security takes on new significance in our climate of data privacy set by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). All organisations and individuals expect consistently secure technology as well as an ongoing commitment to protecting their and their customers’ data. As the volume of information handled by laboratories across the globe continues to increase, particularly as both cross-lab collaboration and remote working are increasing, more and more organisations are looking for ISO 27001 as a stamp of international best practice.

ISO 27001:2013 is one of the most well-regarded and accepted standards for information security management systems. The International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) is an independent, international organisation that brings together experts to share knowledge and develop consensus-based international standards.
